Social Media Campaign(DM2129)

This page will contain all the work completed for the social media project

Introduction

The first project of this semester is a individual social media campaign. This involved us promoting our work using 2 social medias. We had to use Linkedin and then the second one we could choose for ourselves. For this project I have created different steps in the process

What are these steps?

Aims and Objectives

EastGateIP03

The aims and objectives are the exact same in terms of goals for one main reason which is I have never promoted my work and then aimed to receive feedback in that way. I selected the main goal as followers because when I set up a new account my idea was I could build up some sort of following where I can then try and improve the quality of posts on both accounts. I decided to make likes a secondary goal with a target of 5 on each post. This I belived to be achievable on some posts but this was generally down to my own plan for trying to promote the images.

SWOT Research and Analysis

The next step of this project was to think what social media should I use. As I said I was required to use linkedin so I decided to make a SWOT analysis which allowed me to break down each social media and then I could decide what would be the best option for me. This process involved critical thinking on how I could utalise each social media in the way that suits me. I created the SWOT analysis to match my own abilities as well as the quality of the platform. I made my decision on Facebook for the main reason that I can use my personnel account to promote my new account then I can try and attract friends and family to follow, something to note is a good portion of family don't use Instagram or X so I made the decision to use Facebook.

Post Schedule

The second stage of this project was to create this action plan. This was designed to help me understand when posts should be created and then posted. I began with researching when was the best time to post, I used the support sites from canvas and from lectures so I could make some clear plans for pushing ahead with the posts.

Draft Posts/Ideas

Below are 2 examples of planning that I undertook so I knew what I had to post and what I wanted to write. I used the notes software to plan out my posts and used very similar hashtags for all of them. I only posted two examples of these to give a clear idea of each post and each of the posts I made used this same method.

Brand Identity and Logo

EastGateIP03

The logo above was created via Figma, i believed this should really be kept simple which is why i opted to create a very simple design that focuses on simply using my name. However after using this logo i did realise that it was not quite as interesting as I thought and felt that while it had a name It never gave me the feeling of how I view myself. This led me to begin working with Canva which is what you see below which was better for me as I was able to push my image out so potentiel employers or stakeholders would understand more about me as a person.

EastGateIP03

When I first used Canva I began examining all of the potential templates that were open to me via the basic free version which had only a small amount of options to use for templates. My main interest outside games development is focused around history so I began searching up templates and came across a spartan helmet template that had a range of colours and I decided that would be best for my own image that I wanted to present.

What is SDG17?

SDG 17 is technically aimed at encouraging team work and collabartion into our work while focusing on sustanable development. The post below was made to show my understanding of the goal. The idea of this post was to outline they key messages that I know are important to me as game designer and that fit the SDG 17 goal. the three main targets are aimed at: Innovative technology, free markets and trade and finally sustnabile development and callobration. The first one focuses on how countries can use advanced technology to help make the world cleaner for all. This also means making sure the technology involved has unique ideas and solutions to world problems. As a game designer I see some interesting points regarding this particular goal that directly related the role of a game developer which is utilising new tech to improve games as whole weather that is improving game mechanics or creating a more stable experience for players.

The second target within SDG17 is aimed at free trade and markets. Within game design I feel its important to make people aware of how anyone can get involved in the industry weather that it as a game developer or even working in the business in a more offical position. I also believe that is important to for people in this industry to feel like they have control on how they complete tasks. The term free trade means being able to sell their services for anything. An example of this would be working as a freelancer which gives someone the ability to work either as a contractor or even as a independant entity. The benefits of this means that people can gain support they need financially if they are struggling due the debt crisis which is a big part of this this goal which is to prevent financial crashes for people all over the world

The final of the main goals focuses on sustanainble development and callobration. The most important factor here I feel is callobration and working together. For this particular task we have to complete a individual social media campaign so team work and calloboration will be not as important for this type of project. However within some of the social media posts I have made it clear that some of the work was either focused on developing work as a group. Sustainable development is focused on completing projects while considering environmental damage that may be inflicted on the planet.

Analysis of Facebook Posts

The social media page I chose was Facebook, my reasons for this were given in the SWOT analysis however I do feel that this decision was not the right one. My main objective for both social media accounts was to aim to get as many followers as possible however my secondary objective was using likes from the posts I made this was effective for some posts and not all of them. One reason this became a issue was that I began posting before I was able to gain some followers. I also did not have a good quality profile picture. I began with working on basic one in Figma but I then decided to improve this by completing the new profile picture via Canva. I do feel this helped with my account but It may not have been what I wanted.

To gain a following my strategy was to use my personelle account to promote my account via sending out links that people who can then click on this to find the page. I found that while a good portion family and freinds were following but then some ignored the request. I asked current followers to create a link to help with the promotion which came through simple posts on Facebook. I opted to choose Facebook over instagram because a good portion of family did not use instagram while both friends and family use Facebook so I belived I could gain people from different indutries.

Some posts that stood out were my group projects, some reasons for this was I was some of my followers knew about what my interests were and what they enjoyed looking at. For example outside of my RSA and Car game projects the main posts I made were related to some of the historical assets that were made either via personel projects or via the Virtual cities project. This may have impacted the varitey of models that I made however as multiple posts were required I decided to focus on models that I would enjoy making and could talk about in the description of posts. I believe that Facebook was not as effective for my own project and I felt that Instagram may have been better as I could have attracted peers from my lectures which I did not consider so that is probably something I should do in the future.

Brand post reactions

EastGateIP03

This post was made around halfway through the posts I had made on social media and this post was the most successful. i was able to gain around 20 likes and the post was able to be to attract people from different industries and was even able to gain a like from canva which was a bonus however while I did study It I believed that this was due to the hashtags where i specifically was able to gain audiences from designers or even other people in the group.

Analysis of Linkedin posts

I belive that the posts I made on linkedin were much better received than on Facebook for the main reason that I was able to build a better following and had the account all set up. One post that stood out the most was the brand post I made about the logo which was made halfway through the project, at the time this was designed to make my facebook more professional and thus improve the posts between both social media posts. The development of the account began in 2024 as I was aware that we would need an account for a social media. I started posting content around 5 weeks into the project and this was also around as I started posting content via Facebook.

The posting process was kept relatively simple, I made sure to check my post schedule so I could understand when each post need to be made so I could plan out how I should present each post, what the description should contain and finally what hashtags. As I talked about in my early planning stage I used notes to help me get an idea of what I was going to post. My linkedin profile contained everything that was required: Bio, pfp, education and finally skills. I had to make sure this was update so people would be more interested and more willing to follow me. The other reason I made alot of efforts to Linkedin was to understand the different ways I could promote myself to employers or just people who share the interests in game design and with Linkedin being a very good way to post work and gain feedback. I also felt that I could follow game companies to maybe look for a work placement. The final area I will discuss is weather I achieved these goals and how could I have improved my use of linkedin. I feel that I should have presented my development of work more rather than nust finished project as I would have been able to see if the these posts had any value
